Carol Baker AWA, NWS

Carol started her career as an English teacher, loving Shakespeare and poetry, but she got very tired of grading research papers.   She returned to college and earned a  B.A. and M.A. in Art from Arizona State University.  She then taught  Art and Humanities in the Scottsdale and Mesa, Arizona public schools, and drawing at the Kerns Art Center in Eugene, Oregon.   Her emphasis was painting and drawing, and she exhibited her work and won awards.

When she took a teaching position that required her to teach ceramics, she fell in love with clay.  She continued drawing and painting,  but now it was on clay with glazes and ceramic inks.  She has taken many classes and workshops in ceramics, and her instructors have included David Shaner, Chuck Hindes, Ben Owen III, Kristen Keiffer, Ron Meyers, Tom Coleman, Steven Hill, Lynn Smiser-Bowers, Diane Kenney, Don Ridley, and Seth Rainville.  She has exhibited her ceramic  art with the Sonoran Art League, the Shemer Art Center, Arizona Clay, ASU's Art Museum Ceramic Research Center, and the Belloumini  Gallery in Scottsdale.

After a serious car accident she had to end her ceramic career, but she returned to painting and drawing  in 2011.  She now works primarily in watercolor and specializes in portraits.  Her watercolors have been juried into shows at the Scottsdale Artists' School, the Arizona Watercolor Association, the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, the National Watercolor Society, and have won many awards.  She has studied watercolor with Ted Nuttall, Kim Johnson, Andy Evansen, Mario Robinson, Charles Reid, Eric Wiegardt, and Bev Jozwiak.   In 2015 the painting Tiny Umbrella was accepted for publication in the book The Best Of Watercolor: Splash 17.  Carol is a signature member of the Arizona Watercolor Association and the National Watercolor Society.
